[Alyson Kuhn] Michael Boyd, designer of the PLANEfurniture line, collects modernist furniture, art, architecture and design books, and ephemera. Last year, he decided to create a line of modernist-inspired furniture that “makes you think, holds your body, eases your mind, and sits well within your budget.” That’s a quote from the jacket flap of PLANEfurniture: types + prototypes, designed by Mick Hodgson of Ph.D, A Design Office. 50 Books/50 Covers exhibition opens in New York Earlier this year, designers and book lovers saved AIGA’s well-loved 50 Books/50 Covers competition from extinction. 50 Books/50 Covers went on to attract top designs for another year, and the 50 best-designed books and book covers of 2010 are now on display at the AIGA National Design Center in New York.
