We applaud these ‘witty’ new mittens from kate spade new york

[Alyson Kuhn] These mittens are so smart — and you can quote us on that. The design genies at kate spade new york have outdone — but not outsmarted — themselves again. No longer need you rake your fingers in the air to make quotes. Instead, you can just hold up your palms to say, “I am being ironic!” We g-love it.

These mitts are not twits. They are smart, with the opening quote on the right hand and the closing quote on the left. You hold up your hands, you wink, you make your point. Your every off-the-cuff remark will elicit a smile … proving, as we like to say, that good grammar shows good taste.

The box is jaunty and festive and potentially handy for envelopes. The stripes remind us of the little kate spade new york Things we Love book — which now might move off my bookshelf … to live atop the glove box.

To avoid a typographic “quotastrophe,” we recommend Ilene Strizver’s enlightening Felt & Wire feature. To revel in “unnecessary” quotation marks, we recommend The Book of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks, from Chronicle Books (shown here). To avoid disappointment, we recommend ordering your mittens before the snow gets too deep to dig out your mailbox.

The Beautiful Angle duo makes 3 good points

TEDx Tacoma last week featured a presentation by Felt & Wire friends Lance Kagey and Tom Llewellyn. Their title is a little long, but their talk is short, and we liked it so much we’ve watched it twice. Check out “Guerrilla Messaging: A Story of Money, Power and Desire.”
