[Emily Potts] Last week we were inspired by three amazing artists: Henning Wagenbreth, Sophie Dutertre and Placid. In keeping with the French artist theme, I’m starting off this week’s Creative Chain with an illustrator I deeply admire and respect.

[Kim Rogala] As the Mohawk Show 12 entry deadline approaches (May 31st, so hurry and enter!) we wanted to direct your attention to the Show’s materials that were created by the team at Tether. We asked Stanley Hainsworth, founder and chief creative officer of Tether, to tell us a little about his thoughts behind the designs. Furthermore >

[Alyson Kuhn] Michael Boyd, designer of the PLANEfurniture line, collects modernist furniture, art, architecture and design books, and ephemera. Last year, he decided to create a line of modernist-inspired furniture that “makes you think, holds your body, eases your mind, and sits well within your budget.” That’s a quote from the jacket flap of PLANEfurniture: types + prototypes, designed by Mick Hodgson of Ph.D, A Design Office. I recently sat in some of the furniture and can confirm that it is quite user-friendly. Furthermore >

A Thousand Thank Yous Husband and wife team Nathan and Monika Rose of Parallel Print Shop have just moved their press room from a small one-car garage into a real studio, and they want to pay it forward by sending out 1000 thank you cards. The one thing holding them back is their lack of funds to purchase a Heidelberg Windmill Press, which would allow them to print their thank you cards (and other stationery) more rapidly.
“There is peace to be found in a handwritten note,” says Monika Rose, co-founder of Parallel Print Shop. One of the company’s chief missions is to promote and encourage the sentimentality and personality contained in physical, letterpress, handwritten cards and stationery. “We want to bring more happiness into the world by creating the vessels on which to share those sweet notes, deep thoughts, secret moments, and most of all — thanks,” say Nathan and Monika. In order to get enough funds to achieve their goal of 1000 Thank Yous, they’ve posted their project on Kickstarter. With a goal of $8,888 and only 11 days to go, you can contribute to this project here. Nathan and Monika are accepting all donations, from $1 to $5,000+, and every backer will receive a thank you gift, including one of the 1000 Thank Yous (see designs above and more here) — some of which are printed on Mohawk Renewal — for those pledging $5 or more.
