Austria is already well known for its crystals … and from what we’ve seen from the talented team at PaperPhine, Austria will soon be revered for its artisanal twine.
Some of the paper twines you’ll find at Felt & Wire Supply, like these, are wound on small vintage bobbins. Or perhaps you’d like to choose a selection by color … something soft, classical … or maybe you’re looking for a little pop on a special package?
Since Felt & Wire opened Supply (Supply is actually a new category on Felt & Wire Shop), there’s been a flurry of interest in these wonderful washi tapes. Felt & Wire Shop currently offers 69 colors and patterns from which to choose.
Created by Top Hat, these imaginative tapes are available in a triple rainbow of colors … and the possibilities for their application are limited only by the creator’s imagination.
You could use these tapes to wrap gifts, make party favors, seal the back of an envelope, or perhaps mask the address area on a box earmarked for special delivery. What else might you make with them?
The rich, lyrical color names offer inspiration beyond the palette of hues: botan, kesshou pink, budou and yagasuri murasaki.
The patterns include polka dots, headdress (one of our favorite), crystal, arrow feathers, stripe, graph and, yes, tartan (also shown in the fourth photo from the top).
We’d like to pair the watabushi with Mohawk Loop Jute (below). Yes, yes, we’ve all been waiting for them: Beautiful Mohawk envelopes and inserts are now available on Felt & Wire Supply. Happily, the correspondence cards and envelopes are sold separately and available in convenient 10-packs. Take a look at all 21 colors.
Need some help narrowing your selection? Mohawk has handily organized the selections into color coordinated collections: Barcelona, Neutrals, Spa and Brights.
And lovers of legendary Mohawk Superfine will be most happy to see notecards and envelopes are (dare we say finally?) available in Ultrawhite Smooth. And if you’re like this blog’s own Alyson Kuhn, who has publicly professed her admiration for the well-proportioned 4 bar (short for baronial), you’ll be pleased to know Mohawk offers the smallest mailable envelope right here.
In addition to many popular Mohawk papers — Loop, Britehue, Carnival, Via and Superfine — Felt & Wire Supply offers limited editions of exquisite handmade cotton papers such as the collection above.
Felt & Wire Supply also offers assortments of vintage stamps, hand-picked by Angela Liguori. (No two sets are alike.) These stamps are absolutely perfect for collage, decoupage, envelope dressing, and package wrapping. Most of them have been soaked off of their original mailing envelopes, so you’ll need a glue-stick or other adhesive.
After you’ve ogled the stamps, take a look at the work of mixed-media collage artist Michelle Caplan, who offers four collections of unusual items. The paper numbers (above) were salvaged from an old graphic designer’s text kit and happily found their way into her swell Letters & Numbers kit.
Collagists check this out: How about a nice bag of vintage wallpaper scraps … yet another ingenious idea by Collage Lab.
Paperfinger has created an eclectic collection of calligraphic rubber stamps. In addition to “loving” and “no but seriously i really love you” stamps, mark your calendar to nab this stamp when you’re starting to think about making your own valentines.
We almost forgot about these beautiful paper wraps with Italian cotton ribbon. These beautiful ties are available in lemon, fuchsia, pink, neutral and melon.
And one last look at the wonderful washis! To celebrate this new section, Mohawk is offering $.99 shipping on their products for a limited time. (Note: Products ship to U.S. and Canada only.) So, what will you get excited and make?
The title of this post was inspired by Matt Jones, who created the “Get Excited and Make Things” slogan and artwork in response to this poster. Matt felt “Keep Calm and Carry On” was precisely the wrong sentiment for our age, and his response is intended to create a call for positive change. Read Matt’s story here.
