Pistachio Press heralds minimalism, simplicity and pattern in 2011
[Rachael Hetzel] The 2011 Pistachio Press calendar is inspired by the clean lines of mid-century modern furniture, lamps and wallpaper. This 4 x 11-in. calendar is printed in nine colors on 100% tree-free cotton paper on an antique Vandercook letterpress. Each page can be trimmed to 4 x 6 in. and framed.
Heather Lins Home sets aficionados up to have a truly capital year
[Heather Lins] A Year in Caps: 2011 Typographic Calendar is a series of 12 sustainably harvested birch veneer cards, one month on each card. I was inspired by type specimen books and interpreted the mood of each month typographically: Thin, oblique type becomes slicing rain; an ornamental swash, the curl of a pumpkin vine. Each set of cards is finished with a ribbon, gift tag and muslin gift bag. The cards are printed digitally.
Blackbird Letterpress serves up a mini calendar (with a shrimpy price!)
[Kathryn Hunter] The Blue Crab of Louisiana is a much-loved 10-legged crustacean found right here off the Gulf Coast. With its sapphire-hued claws, it’s a great symbol of a healthy ocean. This mini calendar measures 4 x 5.5 in., printed in pale cerulean blue on 140# recycled paper, hand fed and treadle driven on our C&P letterpress. The crab image is printed from a vintage metal printer’s cut, and the stripes are printed from a linocut. Text is handset type. The calendar pad — designed in-house with tear-off months — comes in a recycled kraft A2 envelope.
Laura Macchia illustrates 2011 with a flower or plant that flourishes each month
[Laura Macchia] Inspired by the colors and shapes found in nature, I have designed a vibrant 2011 wall calendar. Each month features a different botanical illustration, many based on my own photographs. The calendar is printed on 100% post-consumer paper, packaged with organic cotton ribbon, and it includes a bulldog clip.
Delphine reprises a dozen of the studio’s most popular images and icons
[Erika Firm] One of my favorite projects to design each year is our calendar. This year I switched from letterpress to digital/flat printing — on extra-thick recycled cover stock — because I really wanted to go for A LOT of color. I completely flooded the backgrounds with ink (the backs of each month are also full color) so these calendars stand out. I used the best-selling and favorite icons from our collection of note cards and custom invitations. The calendar is 4.25 x 5.5 in. It has a magnetic bull clip so you can hang it on your fridge or magnetic bulletin board … or on the side of your file cabinet, where mine is.
