Sticky Situation: The 14th Annual Scotch Brand Most Gifted Wrapper Contest!

[Alyson Kuhn] Major excitement before breakfast: I’ve just been nominated as a kuhntestant in the 2010 Scotch Brand Most Gifted Wrapper Contest! As many of you know, I specialize in wrapping small — even tiny — regularly shaped packages … while the Scotch folks specialize in presenting their finalists with big, bulky, bonky objets like … a bike, or how about a grand piano?

Last December, we reported, rather rapturously, on Alton Dulaney’s grand prize-winning performance. It’s true: He wrapped a grand piano … and lived to rap about it. Dulaney is the consummate wrapping professional, King of Contours for Kate’s Paperie in Manhattan, whereas I am absolutely an amateur. I’ve been paid to write about wrapping, but I’ve never been paid to wrap. Howevah, I am going to try to rise to the challenge. Yes, I am going to get in shape for the tape-etition!

If you would like to nominate someone (or yourself), all the details are right here. And if you would like to second (or third) my nomination, you can do that forthwith! My address is: Felt & Wire (Line 1); P.O. Box 277 (Line 2); Napa, CA 94559-0277. E-mail is alyson@kuhncierge.com.

Alyson Kuhn began wrapping soaps (shown above) in envelope inside tints in the spring of 2009. The soaps above are actually under glass on a vintage teacart.

I live in a cozy apt underneath Alyson Kuhn. She is the Master Wrapper of the neighborhood. She brings class to ‘da hood. She has taught us how to make original envelopes from ‘zine covers (first you spend $137.39 on various subscriptions that have great covers (ops, add $41 to that total) and then cut (perfect tool $19.95) and magically create amazing envelopes. Did I mention that the envelopes are so fab that I won’t use them so I buy a box of large envelopes ($14.95 on sale) and it is just another rich day in Napa Valley.
Alyson’s friendship and talents, I might add ($00.00), are priceless!

My friendship with Zoe Kahn includes kahnstant opportunities for interchangeable wordplay. We kuhntinue to amuse ourselves with kahndid commentary, though never while drinking Kahnstant Comment. A mutual friend has observed that if we opened a resort, we could call it Kahnkuhn. Z. subscribes to many magazines, including, of course W.
